One of the reasons you may have been afraid to write your trading terms for your dealers is that you just don`t know how to start, and you worry about not looking professional if you`re not familiar with industry standards. But for the most part, the conditions that show you have a lot of thoughts about how the relationship will work and what is right for both parties, you are usually going to look more professional, instead of less, even if you have something inside that the merchant is not ready to accept. They will tell you, and that is the starting point for your negotiations. Don`t be uncomfortable or embarrassing and ask for a clear explanation of when and how payments are made. It is your responsibility as the owner of your business to understand the agreements you make. How much do you charge? Do you offer free shipping and, if so, what is the minimum value of the order to be eligible? How do you ship goods to the customer? Courier? Regular postal service? Something else? What should the customer do if the goods do not arrive? Who is responsible for ending the tariff tax? This is an area where there are a lot of differences in expectations, so it`s really important to say under what circumstances you`re going to give a retailer exclusivity in their environment, and what that means. It is also a good practice to check your experiences with your fellows every two months and to think about situations that have upset or uncomfortable you, or caused you financial difficulties. Add your terms and conditions of sale so you can detect these problems in the future before they occur. There are so many challenges in running a craft business, and for many of them, we can`t really see them coming or know what impact they will have on our business. If the distributor acts as an agent, the work belongs to the manufacturer and the manufacturer determines the price and terms of sale. This means that you must set the selling price for which you expect the items to be sold and if the distributor has permission to discount that price and under what circumstances. You should also be clear if the delivery voucher you send with the shipments contains the sale price, the artist`s price or both. It is usually best to include both, so there is no confusion.
This too is extremely important. Many stores selling or returning will make payments to dozens or even hundreds of manufacturers, so they may already have systems to which they stick, but you need to know what these systems are.
